We couldn’t have wished for better weather than we had at the third edition of our wonderful event. On Friday and Saturday, when we were marking the courses, it rained quite a few times. A day after the event, there were low temperatures, wind, fog, and a few drops of rain again. Even the shepherds on Velika planina said we were lucky. But luck favors the brave, or so they say 🙂
Morning still was quite chilly, but the temperatures rose quickly and the venue was ready.
Next step was a presentation of the courses and a welcome speech by a representative of the Velika planina company, and soon after that we began the countdown. At exactly 10:00 a.m., all participants set off at once on three different courses, with hikers naturally choosing their own versions of the courses.
It was a day for records, as we saw record times set by the winners on both the shortest and longest routes.

The second edition of our wonderful TRAIL VELIKA PLANINA event took place on the last Sunday of the summer holidays, in sunny weather that was almost too good to be true. While last year’s participants were quite cold, this year’s participants were quite warm, as the temperature out in the sun was over 30 degrees Celsius, there was no wind, and only a few clouds appeared here and there, which only added to the landscape.
Participants tackled three competitive courses and hiking trails, where we recorded a record number of registered participants who set off independently, in groups, or even as entire companies along the trails of unspoiled nature that Velika planina has to offer.
The first to reach the finish line were the participants in the shorter 6.7 km COURSE ALONG THE SHEPHERDS’ TRAILS.

We didn’t have to wait long, or rather, we hadn’t even started our snacks when we saw the winner of the 13.5 km MIDDLE DISTANCE RACE, who defended his first place from last year. BRAVO GAŠPER BREGAR.

The wait was the longest for participants on the 29.5 km course, where those registered conquered over 1,500 m of elevation gain and made their way to the most distant point of the route, Kašna planina.

Congratulations as well to all the hikers who also did something for themselves. Thanks also to all the supporters along the course and the staff of Velika planina for the excellent stew and wonderful hospitality.
Of course, we must not forget all the herding communities that are connected by our event: the Mala planina herding community, the Velika planina herding community, the Kašna planina herding community, and the Planina dol herding community. Thank you for your support and patience in carrying out the event.
At the end of the event, we awarded medals and trophies to the fastest overall finishers, as well as medals and prizes to the top three finishers in three men’s and women’s categories on the medium and short courses and seven categories on the longest course. The absolute best also received DECATHLON STORE VOUCHERS, which was also the main sponsor of the event.

Despite the different forecast (wind, cloudy, sun), this time at Velika Planina was truly insane. Rain all day long, wind tearing banners apart, and temperatures dropping below 5 degrees at times. All of you who were with us this time, YOU ARE THE WINNERS.
Bravo and congratulations to everyone, you are truly TOP. Some pictures are available in the news section on our FB page HERE, we’ll arrange and publish the rest in the coming days as we receive them from our photographers and assistants on the trail.
Until then, enjoy a warm tea and rest and regenerate at TERME SNOVIK, which have provided a ticket to their beautiful pools for every registered participant. You more than deserve it.
Congratulations to all 110+ registered participants who embarked on the 3 trails this time. All others either feared the bad weather or withdrew when we postponed the event for 1 day.
Believe us, on Saturday, when the event was initially planned, there was no rain, but there was such dense fog that everyone would have been lost on Velika Planina if the event had taken place, that’s the condition we encountered while marking the trails. Our decision to postpone was therefore justified and correct.
We conducted the awards ceremony with the assistance of the director of Velika Planina official website right at Zeleni Rob Inn, where the atmosphere was homely as it was dry and warm
